MY STORY

Jay Worsnop

II’m a Daughter, Sister, Aunty, Great Aunty, Godmother, Niece, Cousin, Friend, Kaiako and Executive Servant to an 8kg feline  and I am genuinely intrigued about life especially through the lens of our youngest citizens.

I have a brother who is 4 years younger than me and I believe this is where my strong urge and interest to care and nurture others began.  We have an awesome friendship based on good banter, appreciation of quick wit and honesty.

I live in Gisborne and currently have the privilege of managing a small community-based early childhood centre in the CBD - a special place where I began my journey as a wide-eyed teacher in training in 2004 and have never left.

My passion is being alongside infants, toddlers and their whānau. I spent 19 amazing years teaching, learning and wondering with them before moving into my current role.

I have had the opportunity to be immersed in the teachings of the Pikler pedagogues, completing four of the Pikler Institute’s five-day intensive trainings. My teaching practice is inspired by the work of Dr Emmi Pikler and Pennie Brownlee.

Ehara taku toa,i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini.

My success should not be bestowed onto me alone, as it was not individual success, but success of a collective. Cooperation of many can bring best results.
